Our History

FITP Church had a humble beginning in 1955 when the First Southern Baptist Church of Banning began a mission in Beaumont using California Baptist College students to preach. On October 8, 1961, the church was officially organized as First Southern Baptist Church of Beaumont with 33 charter members. Pastor Weldon Bernard was the first pastor. The first building on 5 acres of land at the current location was dedicated on October 27, 1963.

Through the years several men have served the church as pastor beginning with John Lewis (1964), then Don Hathcock (1966), Fred B. Fisher (1971), Troy Manley (1973) served until 1976 with 88 members.

In 1977 Cliff Howery came as pastor and the church began an era of growth. The completion of a new auditorium and educational wing gave significantly more room. A fresh spirit of joy and excitement permeated the church. Through the next 7 years many people came to know the Lord and were baptized. When Cliff left in 1984 to minister in Canada, he was followed by Dr. Walter Price.

God richly blessed the ministry of our church under the leadership of Pastor Walter Price. We experienced significant numerical and spiritual growth, and have been marked by a commitment to biblical teaching. In June of 2014 Mark Rogers joined the pastoral staff as the Associate Senior Pastor. The goal was for him to transition into the senior role. In May of 2016 Pastor Walter Price retired after 32 years at Fellowship in the Pass, and Pastor Mark became our senior pastor. We have been blessed to experience a smooth and God-honoring transition.

Our commitment to biblical truth and the advance of the gospel of Christ in our community and around the world remains strong. We are taking new steps to reach our community with the gospel. We are filled with faith as we continue following Christ together and loving our community in His name.
